PRESENTATION

At sea, the trimmer’s eye is invaluable, but it remains intuitive and subjective. The Exocet FlyingShape solution transforms this perception into reliable, actionable data.
With embedded LiDAR sensors, your sails are continuously scanned. The data is instantly processed by the Exocet FlyingShape computer, which reconstructs the 3D sail envelope in real time.
These measurements, synchronized with your onboard instruments, are accessible via Exocet Blue: you can use them live to fine-tune your trim, or analyze them post-sailing to refine your strategic choices.

The result: sails trimmed with unmatched precision, consistent and always optimized.

WHO IS THIS SOLUTION FOR?

  • Offshore racing teams (IMOCA, Ultim, Class40, TP52)
  • Performance-driven sailing yachts and superyachts
  • Wind-propelled commercial vessels
  • R&D programs, sail and rigging designers

WHAT YOU GAIN ONBOARD

  • Precise sail trim, closely aligned with theoretical models and boat experience
  • Reproducible adjustments, independent of crew or sailing conditions
  • A reliable correlation between sail shape and measured performance
  • Valuable time savings in the tuning of rigging and sail plans
  • A design support tool for sailmakers and engineering teams
  • A foundation for future automated sail-trim systems

What makes the difference?

Until now, comparing trim settings from one day to another or validating a sail choice was only possible through post-processing, using complex systems that were heavy to install and difficult to maintain onboard.

With Exocet FlyingShape, this technology becomes:

  • Accessible – easy to deploy on racing yachts, performance yachts, and wind-powered vessels
  • Lightweight & reliable – designed for seamless, long-term integration
  • Unique – offering direct real-time insights to optimize sail trim while sailing

MAIN FEATURES

  • Real-time measurement of key synthetic sail-shape values at different heights:
    • Draft depth (% of chord)
    • Draft position (% from leading edge)
    • Sail twist
  • Recording of full 3D sail shapes at selected moments for post-race/export analysis by teams and designers
  • Automatic synchronization with navigation data (wind, heel, speed)
